If you’ve ever wanted to meet celebrity chef Phil Vickery and get the feedback of top foodies on your cookery skills, this year’s SPAM™ Cook of the Year judging panel will be all that budding chefs and all-round SPAM™ fans could wish for!
Michelin-starred chef Phil Vickery will be joined by Cathy Winston, blogger and food writer for Kitchendaily.co.uk – AOL’s dedicated food site, Ben Dakin, resident food writer and personality behind ‘Ben’s Kitchen’ in Woman magazine, Christine Parsons, Lifestyle Editor at Chat magazine and a representative from Hormel Foods Corporation, makers of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham and organisers of the competition.
Phil Vickery, who champions the use of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham as a cupboard staple said: “I am really looking forward to the final of the SPAM® Cook of the Year competition. Not only will I get to sample all manner of exciting and tasty recipes but I’ll have the pleasure of my fellow judges’ company who are guaranteed to bring some fantastic expertise to the table!”
“I would urge anyone who enjoys food and experimenting in the kitchen as much as myself, who’s watched MasterChef and thought ‘I could do better’ to crack open a can of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham, team it with your favourite ingredients and upload your recipe to www.spam-uk.com/coty. After all, everyone who does could be joining myself and our resident ‘foodie’ panel at the Good Housekeeping Institute in October.”
People have until 31st August 2010 to enter the SPAMâ„¢ Cook of the Year Competition. All recipes will then be put to an online vote to determine the finalists from across seven regions: Scotland, North East, North West, The Midlands/Anglia, South East, South West and Wales. The budding chefs behind these recipes will subsequently be sent to London to take part in a ‘cook-off’ at the Good Housekeeping Institute in London on 12th October.
The winner will get a two night stay for two including dinner, breakfast and a spa treatment courtesy of Oxford Hotels and Inns and the winning recipe will inspire a dish on one of the hotel restaurant’s menus. The official ‘SPAMâ„¢ Cook of the Year’ will also take home an iPod Touch and iTunes vouchers so they can download cookery apps to keep them busy in the kitchen for months to come!
The two runners up will get a one night stay for two and breakfast, again courtesy of Oxford Hotels and Inns.
