SPAM and Hendersons Relish

SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham has teamed up with Henderson’s Relish to give the people of Sheffield an All Day Breakfast Event they won’t forget, all in aid of the Children’s Hospital Charity.

Roll for £1, Fry Up for £2

The event, which celebrates the great British breakfast, is being held on Saturday, 4 October 2014 between 10am and 4pm, at Crucible Corner in Tudor Square, Sheffield. Guests can enjoy a hearty SPAM® Fry Up for just £2 or an Egg SPAMWICH for £1, with a generous splash of Sheffield’s famous spicy sauce. All proceeds will go to the charity.

The two brands have worked together on various breakfast recipes and can confirm that SPAM® Products and Henderson’s Relish complement each other perfectly, to create a unique taste experience that you can find here

As fans around the world get ready to enjoy Monty Python Live (mostly) from the O2 in London this Sunday (20 July), as it is broadcast to 570 cinemas in the UK and 2000 worldwide, those attending the screening at Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle Upon Tyne will be treated to a special Pythonesque surprise free SPAM® Popcorn.

As Monty Python says “now for something completely different” and that’s exactly what this iconic meat will bring to the audience on Sunday, when fans can sing along with the famous SPAM™ song, wear their knotted handkerchiefs and enjoy the hilarity of the Python’s unique humour in ‘The Last Night of the Pythons’.

Before the final weepy, hilarious and uproarious performance by the five surviving Pythons live from London, characters such as King Arthur and the Black Knight will hand out specially designed popcorn cartons, filled with tasty SPAM® Popcorn – a mix of crunchy popcorn and 90% shoulder pork and leg ham - to Newcastle cinema goers that they can enjoy during the performance.

British Sandwich Week 11 – 17 May 2014

It’s British Sandwich Week from 11-17 May 2014 and when it comes to making the ultimate sandwich, there’s no tastier or more satisfying filling than the iconic SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham.

Made from a minimum of 90% shoulder pork and leg ham, SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham is quick and easy to prepare, and so versatile it can be eaten hot or cold in a variety of tasty and convenient sandwiches from toasties to tortillas. Slice to make a simple SPAM® Sandwich, fry to create a chunky SPAM® Steak Baguette or grill to build a satisfying SPAM® Club. Here’s an amazing fact you may not know about the humble SPAM® Sandwich.

The ‘Sandwich Islands’ was the name given to the Hawaiian Islands by James Cook in the 1770s. He named them after John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, who invented the sandwich after placing a piece of meat between two slices of bread. Coincidently, Hawaiians go crazy for SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham and in Aloha State, more than 7 million SPAM® products are sold per year and Hawaii even hosts its own annual SPAM JAM® festival in Honolulu. SPAM® Club Sandwiches

Makes four club sandwiches

SPAM® Club Sandwiches

Ingredients

  • 1 340g can of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham - cut into 4 slices vertically
  • 4 slices Red Leicester cheese
  • 2/3 tablespoons caramelised onion chutney
  • 4 slices of thick cut brown bread
  • 2 slices of thick cut white bread
  • 2 medium tomatoes - sliced
  • 4 wooden cocktail sticks to serve
Method
  1. Under a hot grill lightly grill the slices of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham on both sides
  2. Toast all sliced of bread on both sides.
  3. Spread the chutney generously over two slices of brown toast then layer up the remaining ingredients on each sandwich as follows :
    • 2 slices of cheese
    • 1 slice of grilled SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham
    • 1 slice of white toast
    • Chutney
    • 1 slice of grilled SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham
    • sliced tomatoes
    • 1 layer of brown toast
  4. Cut the crusts off each sandwich then cut each sandwich across diagonally to give you 4 club sandwiches.
  5. Pierce through each club sandwich with a cocktail stick to hold it together.

SPAM® Steak Baguette

 

SPAM® Steak Baguette

Ingredients

  • 1 200g can of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham - cut into medium slices
  • 1 French Baguette
  • Mustard or Garlic Mayonnaise
  • 1 large onion sliced into rings
  • 1 garlic clove - peeled
  • Vegetable oil for frying
Method
  1. Cut the baguette in half long-ways, rub each side with a little garlic and toast under a grill or on a BBQ
  2. Onion rings can either be fried or put into a tin foil parcel with a little oil and cooked on a BBQ. If using a frying pan, add a little oil into the pan and sauté the onion rings slowly until golden.
  3. Fry or lightly BBQ the SPAM® Steaks until lightly golden both sides.
  4. Cut the baguette open and spread with the Mayonnaise on both sides.
    Lay the SPAM® Steaks along the length of the bread and add a layer of lightly browned onion rings.
  5. Serve with tomato salsa or coleslaw.

SPAM® Tortilla Sandwiches

Makes 4 tortillas - (These can be cooked in a normal frying pan whilst camping or on the BBQ)

SPAM® Tortilla Sandwiches

Ingredients

  • 1 34Og can SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham - cut into medium slices
  • 4 large tortillas
  • 1 large pack Mozzarella or cheese of choice - sliced
  • 1 small bottle sweet chilli sauce
  • 1 packet of rocket or salad leaves
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
Method
  1. Light brush slices of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham with oil and fry or BBQ.
  2. Sandwich together the SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham with sliced Mozzarella, rocket or salad leaves inside the tortillas then drizzled with a little sweet chilli sauce.
  3. Toast the tortillas on the hot BBQ ensuring you turn over when they start to brown.
  4. When the cheese starts to ooze out of the sandwich they are ready and can be cut into quarters and served.

London was buzzing on the first day of SPAM® Appreciation Week as the team at SPAMALOT offered passers by a free SPAMBURGER Hamburger to celebrate. Hundreds enjoyed the great taste of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham, including SPAMALOT stars James Bisp and Daniel Boys, who chatted to fans outside the Playhouse Theatre and joined in the fun.

Giant SPAM® FritterSPAM® Fritters are renowned for being a chip shop classic, that’s why Francine’s Fish & Chip Shop in Plymouth rose to the challenge in 2007 to make the UK’s biggest ever SPAM® Fritter and still holds the record today.
